The Kano State House of Assembly has approved the 2025 Appropriation Bill, passing a budget of ₦719,755,417,663 during a lively session on Tuesday. The budget, titled Budget of Hope, Human Capital, and Economic Development, emphasizes key sectors including education, healthcare, infrastructure, rural development, and economic growth.
The approved budget allocates ₦262.67 billion (36%) to recurrent expenditures and ₦457.08 billion (64%) to capital projects, signaling a robust investment in development-focused initiatives.
Initially, Governor Abba Yusuf proposed a budget of ₦549.16 billion. However, the Assembly increased the figure by over ₦170 billion, reflecting an ambitious push for growth and development.
In a statement by the Speaker’s spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Shawai, the state plans to generate ₦75.71 billion in internally generated revenue (IGR), comprising 13.8% of the total budget. The remaining 86% will be sourced from the Federation Account and capital receipts.
“The total expected receipts for 2025 stand at ₦549.16 billion, with ₦75.71 billion from IGR and the balance from external sources,” the statement highlighted.
Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Falgore, praised the lawmakers for their dedication during deliberations, emphasizing the significance of the budget in driving the state’s development agenda.
“This budget represents a crucial step in advancing Kano State’s developmental goals. I commend my distinguished colleagues for their patience and commitment throughout the process,” Falgore said.
With its passage, the Kano State Government seeks to accelerate progress in human capital development, economic growth, and improved living standards across the state.
