The Kano State Government has extended the deadline for the recertification of Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) by 60 days, allowing property owners additional time to complete the process.
The exercise, overseen by the State’s Ministry of Land and Physical Planning, commenced on November 25, 2024, and was initially scheduled to conclude on January 31, 2025. However, the new deadline has been set for April 1, 2025.
In a statement, the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Muhammad Yahuza, urged all land and property owners who have yet to recertify their documents to take advantage of the extension. He warned that failure to comply within the new timeframe could lead to the forfeiture of property rights under existing regulations.
Yahuza commended the public for their enthusiastic response to the recertification initiative but acknowledged concerns regarding the initial deadline. He assured property owners that the extension would provide sufficient time to complete the process without legal repercussions.
The recertification exercise is being conducted at the Kano State Geographic Information System (KANGIS) office, and property owners are advised to comply within the new timeframe to avoid potential penalties.
