Kalu Dismisses 2027 Election Fears, Says APC Confident in Tinubu’s Leadership

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North) has refuted suggestions that the early endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and affiliated groups is driven by concerns over possible opposition coalitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking to journalists at the National Assembly on Tuesday, the former Abia State Governor emphasized that the APC remains confident in its performance and is unshaken by political maneuvering from rival parties.

“We are the ruling party. We are passionate about Nigeria. We love this country, and that’s why many of us are creating jobs by building industries instead of relying solely on government,” Kalu said.

He added that the ruling party is focused on delivery, not distractions.
“There’s no fear. The opposition will always criticise—that’s their job. Our job is to deliver, and I believe Nigerians will appreciate President Tinubu’s work in the years ahead,” he stated.

Kalu, who chairs the newly established Senate Committee on the Southeast Development Commission, also disclosed that the Southeast APC caucus had endorsed President Tinubu weeks before the national declaration.

“Look at what I’m wearing,” he said, pointing to his outfit. “It’s tailored as an endorsement. The Southeast caucus met—chaired by Governor Hope Uzodinma, with Governor Francis Nwifuru and Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu—and we were the first to call for a national endorsement.”

On the state of the economy, Senator Kalu praised President Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing them as bold and necessary steps toward long-term stability.

“This is the first President to remove the fuel subsidy and unify the exchange rate. That’s why things are tough now—we are simply not used to hard work. But these are the sacrifices we must make. Nigerians will see the results in two to three years,” he concluded.
