In a bold move to strengthen healthcare delivery, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has approved the recruitment of 1,800 staff to fill personnel gaps across all Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities in the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Umma Ahmad, announced this on Thursday, stating that the recruitment drive is part of the administration’s commitment to maintaining Kaduna’s leadership role in primary healthcare.
According to Hajiya Umma, the recruitment will address critical human resource gaps in PHC facilities, significantly reducing maternal and child mortality rates while enhancing the overall well-being of Kaduna’s residents.
She noted that the ongoing revitalization of 255 PHC facilities across the state includes upgrading them to Level 2 status. This upgrade will equip the centers to manage uncomplicated diabetes, hypertension, severe asthma resuscitation, and assisted deliveries, among other essential services.
Hajiya Umma further disclosed that the transformation of the healthcare system also involves the provision of state-of-the-art equipment and the distribution of essential drugs. She emphasized that the administration of Governor Uba Sani, since assuming office on May 29, 2023, has prioritized the health sector, implementing strategic initiatives aimed at improving healthcare accessibility and quality.
With the planned recruitment and facility upgrades, Kaduna State is set to become a model for primary healthcare delivery in Nigeria, promising improved medical services and better health outcomes for its citizens.
