Kaduna Gov Distributes 23 Vehicles to Traditional Rulers

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has hailed the contributions of traditional rulers in maintaining peace and security across the state, describing them as critical partners in the government’s non-kinetic approach to tackling insecurity.

Speaking on Sunday at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House during the official presentation of 23 vehicles to traditional leaders, Governor Sani acknowledged their round-the-clock collaboration with security agencies and grassroots communities.

“They have been working day and night, sharing intelligence with security agents and staying close to the people. That is why our non-kinetic approach to insecurity is yielding results,” he said. “Without the support of our traditional leaders, we would not have achieved security and stability in Kaduna State.”

The vehicles, distributed to traditional rulers across the state, were facilitated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, whom the governor also commended for his unwavering support.

“This is to motivate you,” the governor told the traditional rulers. “We cannot make progress without synergy between traditional institutions, religious leaders, community leaders, and security agencies.”

Highlighting the peace gains under his administration, Governor Sani noted that Kaduna has experienced two years of calm without any reported cases of ethno-religious or communal conflict — a milestone he attributed to the combined efforts of all stakeholders.

“Kaduna State is now one of the most peaceful sub-nationals in the country,” he stated.

The governor also reflected on his achievements as a senator, citing interventions worth over ₦20 billion brought into the state, including the ongoing construction of the Faculty of Engineering at Kaduna State University, a ₦12 billion project spearheaded by Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Mohammed Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, and supported by Speaker Abbas.

“That is the synergy we are talking about — government officials and Kaduna sons working together for the good of the state,” he said.

In his remarks, Speaker Abbas emphasized that the distributed vehicles are tools for enhancing the effectiveness of traditional rulers in governance and peacebuilding, not merely ceremonial assets.

“These vehicles will enable our traditional rulers to access and serve every corner of their chiefdoms and emirates effectively,” he said.

He further revealed plans to renovate palaces and expand vehicle support across Kaduna’s three senatorial zones, with the initiative already captured in the 2025 federal budget.

Looking ahead, the Speaker announced that the ongoing constitutional amendment process will include provisions to assign formal roles to traditional rulers in Nigeria’s governance architecture.

“I want to assure you that the National Assembly is committed to granting our traditional leaders a significant place in the governance framework, starting from 2026,” he affirmed.

The event marked a significant boost to grassroots leadership, reinforcing traditional institutions as vital pillars of Kaduna State’s peace and development agenda.
