Tehran Signals Openness to Diplomacy Amid Escalating Middle East Tensions
TEHRAN — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has indicated that a single phone call from U.S. President Donald Trump could unlock a path back to diplomacy in the Middle East and potentially rein in Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Araghchi’s comments come amid intensifying conflict in the region, with both Iran and Israel trading blame for the ongoing escalation. In a post on social media platform X, the Iranian diplomat suggested that Washington holds the key to calming tensions.
“If President Trump is genuine about diplomacy and interested in stopping this war, next steps are consequential. Israel must halt its aggression, and absent a total cessation of military aggression against us, our responses will continue,” Araghchi stated.
“It takes one phone call from Washington to muzzle someone like Netanyahu. That may pave the way for a return to diplomacy,” he added.
His remarks follow a recent appeal from President Trump, who called on Iran to engage in talks with Israel, warning that the conflict could lead to devastating consequences if left unchecked.
Despite the ongoing hostilities, Araghchi maintained that Iran has no desire to extend the bloodshed, insisting the nation did not initiate the conflict.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reaffirmed that Israel’s military campaign will continue until what he described as a complete dismantling of Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
The situation remains volatile, with international observers closely monitoring for any signs of a breakthrough—or further escalation.
