Ibadan, Nigeria – A former Governor of Oyo State and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has strongly refuted allegations made by former Osun State Governor, Chief Bisi Akande, regarding the assassination of former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige.
Speaking to journalists at his Ondo Street residence in Ibadan on Tuesday, Ladoja dismissed Akande’s claims as false, emphasizing that he had no involvement in the high-profile case.
Over the weekend, Chief Akande had suggested that Ladoja might possess crucial information about the unresolved murder of Bola Ige, who was assassinated on December 23, 2001. Responding to this, Ladoja stated, “Chief Bola Ige was assassinated on December 23, 2001. I became governor on May 29, 2003, which was 18 months after his death. I did not withdraw the case, and my government did not interfere with the legal proceedings.”
He further clarified that the case was handled by the Supreme Court and accused Akande of making misleading statements. “Chief Akande lied against me, and this is not the first time. People have often pointed out his inconsistencies, including Baba Adebanjo in his book,” Ladoja said.
Expressing his deep sorrow over Ige’s assassination, Ladoja stressed that he had shared a close relationship with the late minister.
The unresolved murder of Chief Bola Ige remains a significant topic in Nigeria’s political landscape, with calls for justice continuing more than two decades after his death.
