Jigawa State Governor, Mallam Umar Namadi, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering strategic Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) with Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCOs) to accelerate clean energy development in the state.

Speaking at a strategic roundtable discussion, Governor Namadi assured investors of the state’s readiness to provide a stable investment climate and a secure ecosystem for project implementation. He emphasized the government’s dedication to unlocking opportunities in the renewable energy sector, particularly through solar energy solutions.

The Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Aliyu, presented data-driven insights on Jigawa’s electricity market, underscoring the state’s vast potential for renewable energy expansion. According to him, the state aims to provide electricity access to one million people through solar mini-grids, thereby driving socioeconomic growth and investment.

“Currently, the REA is overseeing 21 mini-grid projects across 21 Local Government Areas in Jigawa under the Nigeria Electrification Programme (NEP) and the African Development Bank’s Minimum Subsidy Tender (MST),” Aliyu stated. He noted that these initiatives will provide electricity to over 300,000 residents, significantly improving energy access in rural communities.

Aliyu further highlighted the REA’s successful deployment of various off-grid energy solutions in Jigawa State over the years. These include solar home systems, mini-grids, streetlights, electric vehicle charging stations, solar-powered irrigation pumps, and grid extension projects. He emphasized that these interventions have played a crucial role in enhancing livelihoods and driving economic growth across the state.

With continued government support and strategic partnerships, Jigawa State is positioning itself as a leading hub for renewable energy development in Nigeria.
