Jigawa Governor Presents ₦698.3 Billion 2025 Budget for Innovation and Transformation

Governor Malam Umar Namadi has presented the 2025 budget proposal of ₦698.3 billion to the Jigawa State House of Assembly. The budget, tagged “Budget of Innovation & Transformation for Greater Jigawa,” represents an 82% increase over the 2023 estimate of ₦383.55 billion.

Governor Namadi emphasized that the budget prioritizes capital investment, aiming to drive innovation and transformation in the state. The personnel cost is set at ₦90.76 billion, accounting for 13% of the total budget and marking a 40% increase from the 2024 estimates. Overheads and other recurrent expenditures are earmarked at ₦63.69 billion, representing 9% of the total budget.

A significant portion of the budget, ₦534.76 billion (76%), is dedicated to capital investment programs. The budget is expected to be financed through various sources, including statutory allocations, VAT, federal transfers, and internally generated revenue (IGR), which is projected to reach ₦130.68 billion. Other sources of funding include an opening balance of ₦100 billion and ₦219.52 billion from grants, bonds, and loans, notably from the World Bank and Islamic Development Bank (ISDB).

The Governor reiterated the state’s focus on infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic development. Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatum, assured the commitment of the Assembly to ensure the swift passage of the budget in line with the state administration’s 12-point agenda.
