The Jigawa State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme Board has commenced the disbursement of ₦733,517,011.13 as terminal and death benefits to 281 retirees and families of deceased civil servants across the state.
Speaking at the Pension House in Dutse, the board’s executive secretary, Dr. Bilyaminu Shitu Aminu, stated that the payment covers gratuities, death benefits, and outstanding pension balances for beneficiaries from the state service, local government councils, and local education authorities.
Dr. Aminu emphasized that the disbursement, timed ahead of Ramadan, aims to provide financial stability for retirees and bereaved families, enabling them to observe the holy month with ease. He reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Umar Namadi’s administration to ensuring the prompt payment of retirees’ entitlements without delays.
He further highlighted Jigawa’s reputation for having one of Nigeria’s most efficient pension policies, consistently disbursing both lump-sum payments and monthly pensions. He commended the governor for sustaining a pension system that prioritizes financial security for former public servants.
Urging beneficiaries to use the funds wisely, particularly in supporting their families and fulfilling religious obligations, Dr. Aminu reiterated the state government’s dedication to prioritizing the welfare of its workforce—both active and retired—by ensuring timely and consistent benefits.
