The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially invited education technology expert and CEO of Educare, Alex Onyia, to lead an independent investigation into the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) following nationwide concerns over technical failures and incomplete questions.
The 2025 UTME, which saw over 1.9 million candidates participate, was marred by numerous complaints, with JAMB revealing that more than 1.5 million candidates scored below 200 out of 400. This sparked widespread concern among parents, educators, and stakeholders, who called for transparency and accountability.
While the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, attributed the mass failure to improved anti-malpractice measures, many Nigerians have demanded a deeper probe into the conduct and integrity of the examination.
Confirming the development via a post on X (formerly Twitter), Onyia stated:
“I received a formal invitation from JAMB for us to transparently conduct a thorough review of the 2025 JAMB exam. The review date is next tomorrow (Thursday). After our review, I will publicly share my findings.”
He also appealed to concerned candidates to remain hopeful and calm, assuring them that their efforts would not go in vain.
“You burnt candles, had sleepless nights, and had high hopes. We will not fail you,” he added.
Onyia’s involvement is expected to bring an independent and technology-driven perspective to the review process, raising hopes for clarity and possible reforms in future examinations.
