The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a strong warning to politicians and stakeholders in the South-East against embezzling the N250 billion allocated for the newly established South-East Development Commission (SEDC).
In a statement released on Sunday, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, emphasized that the funds must be strictly used for the region’s infrastructural development and social intervention programs.
The group outlined key priority areas, including road construction and expansion, rehabilitation of federal hospitals, establishment of new healthcare facilities, and the development of power plants to provide reliable and affordable electricity. IPOB also advocated for the creation of free trade zones, industrial parks, functional seaports, and international airports to boost economic growth.
Warning against misuse, IPOB stressed that the funds should not be diverted into frivolous expenditures such as seminars, conferences, or foreign trips. The organization vowed to monitor the allocation closely and hold accountable those who misappropriate the resources meant for the collective development of the South-East.
“This is not the time for politicians to loot public funds without accountability,” IPOB stated. “The impact of the N250 billion must be evenly distributed across all states and communities in Alaigbo, ensuring equity and justice.”
The group further cautioned that any attempt to siphon the funds for personal or political gain would have consequences, affirming its commitment to exposing corruption and ensuring that the resources benefit the people of the region.
