INEC Receives Petition to Recall Senator Natasha Over Alleged Misconduct

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally received a petition seeking the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the Senate. The petition, signed by over 250,000 constituents, was submitted at INEC’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday and received by the commission’s Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony.

Titled “Constituents’ Petition for the Recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Grounds of Loss of Confidence,” the petition alleges gross misconduct, abuse of office, evasion of due process, and deceitful behavior, which petitioners claim have tarnished the integrity of both the Nigerian Senate and the nation’s democratic institutions.

The embattled senator is currently serving a suspension for allegedly violating Senate rules. Citing Section 69 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and INEC’s regulations on recall processes, the petitioners are demanding her immediate removal and the declaration of her seat as vacant.

INEC is expected to review the petition and initiate the necessary constitutional procedures in response to the recall request.
