The Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the Imo State Governor, Oguwike Nwachukwu, has dismissed as false reports claiming that the state government is offering free bus transportation for Imo citizens residing in Lagos to travel home for the festive season.
In a press statement, Nwachukwu clarified that the information did not come from his office and labeled it as a fraudulent attempt to exploit unsuspecting Imo indigenes. He accused a group of individuals of fabricating a press release, falsely attributing it to his office, to deceive people into paying for non-existent transportation services.
The fake report included details such as travel dates—December 24, 2024, and January 4, 2025—and fraudulent contact numbers. The scammers falsely promised free transportation to cities like Owerri, Okigwe, and Orlu, warning the public not to pay any money or respond to these bogus offers.
Nwachukwu strongly advised Imo residents, particularly those in Lagos, to disregard the fake scheme and avoid falling victim to the fraud. He emphasized that no such initiative has been sanctioned by the state government.
