WARRI — The National President of the Ijaw Peoples Development Initiative (IPDI), Comrade Austin Ozobo, has condemned the suspension and subsequent return of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, insisting there is nothing worth celebrating about it.
Speaking with journalists in Warri, Ozobo described President Bola Tinubu’s action as “illegal, undemocratic and unconstitutional,” warning that it sets a dangerous precedent for Nigeria’s democracy.
“Actually, we are not celebrating it; there is nothing new to be celebrated,” he said.
Ozobo argued that as a civilian president, Tinubu has no constitutional powers to suspend a democratically elected governor.
“We are just advising Mr. President to stop all this lawlessness because what he has done could set a bad precedence and cause tension — if not for the fact that the youths of that state were able to calm themselves down,” he cautioned.
He further criticized the move as “barbaric and unlawful,” urging Tinubu to desist from such actions in the future.
Rivers State has been under emergency rule ordered by the president following a bitter political standoff between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
