The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has dismissed allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) accusing him of plotting to destabilize Osun State and orchestrate an assassination attempt on Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Addressing the claims during a senior officers’ decoration ceremony in Abuja on Thursday, Egbetokun labeled the accusations as baseless and unworthy of a response.
“I read about the allegations, but I refuse to dignify such absurdity with a response. I believe in challenging distortions of facts, but statements clearly contrary to reasoning don’t deserve our time. I am too busy for careless talk,” the IGP stated.
The Osun State PDP had earlier alleged that Egbetokun was collaborating with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to enforce a “non-existent” court order aimed at reinstating former local government chairmen. The claim was made by the party’s state chairman, Sunday Bisi, during a press briefing in Osogbo.
In response, Egbetokun emphasized his commitment to maintaining law and order in Osun State, noting that police reinforcements had been deployed following a request from the state’s Commissioner of Police.
“We have reinforced the command with enough personnel on the ground to ensure peace and prevent any further breakdown of law and order in the state,” he assured.
