In a decisive response to the recent wave of violence in Osun State, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered the deployment of additional tactical squads to restore peace and order in the state.
The Nigeria Police Force, in a statement released by its spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, condemned the disturbing incidents that have led to the destruction of property and the tragic loss of innocent lives.
The statement emphasized the Force’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property while ensuring that those responsible for the violence are brought to justice.
“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has taken decisive action by ordering the deployment of additional tactical squads to Osun State to bolster security and restore law and order,” the statement read.
Adejobi noted that the violence undermines democratic processes and poses a serious threat to the wellbeing of citizens. He assured the public that the police are actively working to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible for the unrest.
The IGP also issued a stern warning to individuals or groups planning to incite further disturbances, stating that acts of lawlessness, hooliganism, or anarchy will not be tolerated.
“The perpetrators of these criminal acts will be identified and made to face the consequences of their unwarranted actions. Citizens must remain calm as normalcy is being restored,” Adejobi added.
The police urged Osun residents to shun violence, go about their lawful activities, and trust in the judicial process as the legitimate avenue for resolving disputes.
“The judiciary remains the ultimate arbiter of all electoral disputes, and political actors must respect and abide by its rulings, upholding the rule of law and democratic principles,” the statement further read.
The Force reassured the public of its dedication to maintaining peace, stressing that it will closely monitor the situation in Osun and implement necessary measures to prevent any escalation.
