IBEDC Denies Mass Layoffs, Threatens Legal Action Over Defamation

0

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has dismissed reports alleging the termination of 3,000 employees, vowing to take legal action against what it describes as a deliberate attempt to tarnish its reputation.

In a statement issued by its Coordinating Head of Corporate Services, Angela Olanrewaju, IBEDC clarified that its total workforce stands at approximately 2,500, making the claim of 3,000 layoffs unfounded.

The company attributed the misinformation to a “malicious attempt” to mislead the public and disrupt its operations. It further assured stakeholders that it remains committed to delivering quality electricity services while addressing the ongoing labor dispute involving third-party outsourcing (PIPILL) and the Oyo State chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).

Olanrewaju acknowledged the Federal Ministry of Labour’s role in mediating discussions between stakeholders and commended the professionalism displayed during the negotiations. She urged the NLC to exercise patience and avoid actions that could disrupt IBEDC’s ability to provide uninterrupted power supply to businesses and residents in Oyo State and surrounding areas.

As the company prepares to pursue legal action, IBEDC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting its reputation and ensuring reliable electricity services for its customers.
