Ibas Appoints New LGA Administrators

In a sweeping move to strengthen governance at the grassroots level, Rivers State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), has appointed new administrators for all 23 local government areas (LGAs) in the state. The appointments, which took effect on Monday, were announced in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Ibibia Worika.

Among those appointed are Okroiyobi Animiete for Abua/Odual, Goodluck M. Ihenacho for Ahoada East, and Promise Jacob for Ahoada West. Others include Dr. Tamunotonye Peters for Akuku Toru, Atajit Francis for Andoni, Ibiapuve Charles for Asari Toru, and Kingsley N. Banigo for Bonny. The list also features Dr. Sokari Ibifuro Francis for Degema, Dr. Gloria Obo Dibiah for Eleme, Franklin P. Ajinwon for Emohua, and Dr. Onyemachi S. Nwankwor for Etche.

Prof. Gospel G. Kpee will oversee Gokana, while Isaiah Christian Nobuawu takes charge of Ikwerre. Dr. Barinedum Nwibere was appointed for Khana, with Dr. Clifford Ndu Walter for Obio Akpor, and Dr. Chukwuma Aje for Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni. Others include Eliel Owubokiri for Ogu/Bolo, Thompson Isodiki for Okrika, Manager Ikechi Wala for Omuma, Fred Apiafi for Opobo/Nkoro, and Eletuuo Ihianacho for Oyigbo. Dr. Sam Kalagbor will administer Port Harcourt, while Nuka O. S. Gbipah will serve in Tai.

In addition to the LGA appointments, the state government has reconstituted three major commissions. Dr. Michael Odey has been named Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RISIEC), with Lezaasi Lenee Torbira, Prof. Author Nwafor, Prof. Godfrey Woke Mbgudiogha, Prof. Joyce Akaninwor, Dr. Olive A. Bruce, and Prof. Chidi Halliday serving as members.

For the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC), Dr. Livinus Bariki has been appointed Chairman. He is joined by Amb. Lot Peter Egopija, Mrs. Maeve Ere Bestman, Mrs. Joy Obiaju, and Mrs. Charity Lloyd Harry as commission members.

The Rivers Local Government Service Commission (RLGSC) will now be chaired by Mr. Israel Amadi, with Linus Nwandem, Lady Christabel Ego George Didia, Dr. Tonye Willie D. Pepple, Richard Ewoh, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ofik (rtd), and Dr. Sammy Apiafi as members.

The shake-up reflects the Ibas administration’s commitment to restructuring and revitalizing key institutions for improved governance and public service delivery across Rivers State.
