The National Assembly has received a supplementary budget of N6.2 trillion from President Bola Tinubu, aimed at funding critical infrastructure projects in education, healthcare, and public welfare, among other sectors. The Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, announced on Friday during an interview in Abuja that the parliament is committed to conducting a comprehensive review of the proposal.

“The 2024 supplementary budget, amounting to ₦6.2 trillion, is designed to support essential infrastructure projects, enhance education, improve healthcare access, and initiate public welfare initiatives,” Agbese stated.

The budget is split into two significant parts: ₦3.2 trillion allocated for renewed hope infrastructure projects and other critical infrastructure across the nation, while ₦3 trillion is designated for recurrent expenditures vital to the Federal Government’s operations.

Agbese emphasized, “We will scrutinize every aspect of the budget proposal to ensure that every kobo is well spent and that it aligns with the interests of our constituents.”

Representing Ado/Ogbadigbo/Okokwu Federal Constituency of Benue State, Agbese assured that the House would engage with stakeholders, hold public hearings, and thoroughly review the executive bill to ensure it benefits all Nigerians.

“Our commitment to transparency and accountability is unwavering. We will invest the necessary time to ensure the budget serves all Nigerians’ interests,” he said. “We maintain a strong working relationship with the Senate, and we are optimistic about passing the supplementary budget promptly.”

Agbese further assured that the House would not hasten the process, emphasizing the need for careful scrutiny and legislative input.

Acknowledging Abubakar Bichi, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Agbese commended Bichi for transforming the country’s budgetary process. “His dedication to transparency and accountability has been exemplary, and his leadership has ensured diligent scrutiny of the budget proposal. Bichi’s extensive experience in budgetary matters has been invaluable, and his commitment to serving Nigerians’ best interests is commendable,” Agbese noted. “We appreciate his efforts and look forward to a thorough and transparent review process.”
