House of Representatives Proposes Establishment of Federal College of Education in Dukku

0

A bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives aiming to establish a Federal College of Education (Special) in Dukku, Gombe State. Sponsored by Abdullahi El-Rasheed, the representative for Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency, the proposed legislation seeks to amend the Federal College of Education Act No. 43 of 2023.

El-Rasheed highlighted the necessity of the bill, emphasizing the need for a college dedicated to training teachers to educate children with disabilities. Currently, there is only one such college in the country, located in the South West region. Establishing a similar institution in the North, specifically in Dukku, would address the shortage of teachers equipped to teach students with special needs.

“The establishment of this college is crucial to complement the existing institution in the South West, which is already facing capacity challenges,” El-Rasheed remarked. “With the prevalence of people living with disabilities and the limited number of trained teachers, it is imperative to expand educational opportunities in this area.”
