Armed police officers and operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) have cordoned off the Kano Emir’s Palace at Kofar Kudu, restricting movement in and out of the premises. The heightened security comes as Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II prepares to accompany the newly appointed Wamban Kano, Munir Sanusi, to his official posting in Bichi.
Reliable sources confirm that the Bichi Emir’s Palace is also under heavy security, with armed policemen deployed in the area. This follows the ongoing tensions surrounding the Bichi Emirate, as Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, National Chairman of the APC, recently reaffirmed the validity of the Bichi Emirate Council and the appointment of Emir Nasiru Ado Bayero.
The situation is further complicated by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s recent move to invalidate five emirs under the newly passed Kano Emirate Council Law, removing them from their chiefdoms. Despite this, the government appointed three second-class emirs, excluding Bichi, which is now classified under the jurisdiction of a district head.
