Harvey Weinstein Moved to Bellevue Hospital Amid Rape Retrial Over Health Concerns

0

Disgraced former Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein has been transferred from Rikers Island to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, following a court order citing serious medical concerns.

The decision was made by State Supreme Court Judge Paul Goetz, who granted Weinstein’s request to leave what he had described as a “hell hole” at the maximum-security facility. Weinstein will now remain at the Kips Bay hospital for the duration of his rape and sexual assault retrial.

Judge Goetz explained that the transfer was necessary to prevent a deterioration of Weinstein’s health. “To not do so could lead to exacerbation of and further serious medical conditions, and possibly death,” the judge stated.

Meanwhile, jury selection in the high-profile retrial continued on Thursday, with dozens of potential jurors screened. Although nine jurors—five women and four men—have already been selected, the panel remains incomplete. Selection will resume on Monday.

The retrial marks a pivotal moment in the #MeToo era, revisiting accusations that helped spark a global reckoning on sexual misconduct and power abuse in the entertainment industry.
