Guinness World Records issued a brief statement urging people to refrain from participating in more “record-a-thons.” This came at about the same time that Tembu Daniel, a Cameroonian sketch creator, started his quest to beat the world record for the longest sobbing marathon by a human.
More Nigerians have been attempting the GWR after Hilda Baci broke the previous record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.
Remember that in May, Baci set the new mark with a 100-hour attempt, dethroning India’s Lata Tondon’s 87 hours 45 minutes set in 2019.
Shortly after Baci’s performance, another chef, Damilola Adeparusi, began a five-day cooking marathon. Then came Adeyeye Adeola, who sought to break Baci’s record in 150 hours as well.
In a similar vein, Temitope Adebayo, an Ibadan-based chef, revealed his desire to cook for more than 120 hours. Hassan Joshua Bature, a computer science lecturer at the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has also announced plans for a 150-hour teaching marathon.
Similarly, Cameroonian Danny Zara proclaimed her intention to achieve a world record for the longest-sex marathon. Joyce Ijeoma, a Nigerian masseur who was striving to set a world record for the longest massage on different people, suddenly passed away.
GWR released a brief statement last week to those aiming to break world records. The British reference book recommended participants in the announcement “properly confirm with our team before attempting to break any world record.”
