Tragedy struck in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, on Tuesday night as unknown gunmen launched a deadly attack on a popular bar near the Okada Office in the Akpehe area, killing no fewer than 10 people and leaving several others critically injured.
Sources told Reporter that the assailants, suspected to be cultists, stormed the busy bar around 8 p.m. and began shooting indiscriminately, sending patrons and residents fleeing for safety.
Witnesses said the attackers continued to fire sporadically after the initial assault, forcing the once-bustling area into a state of total panic and desertion.
As of the time of filing this report, security operatives had cordoned off the scene, while the injured were being evacuated to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement, but residents are calling for immediate intervention to curb the growing insecurity in the area.
