Unknown gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday attacked the family residence of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, sparking fear and tension in the community.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the assailants, believed to be at least three in number, stormed the premises around 1:00 a.m., armed with cutlasses and firearms. The attackers reportedly smashed windows, damaged sections of the building, and caused panic before fleeing the scene.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Chief Security Officer, Yakubu Ovanja, promptly alerted security agencies. Officers from the Okehi Police Division arrived shortly after to assess the situation.
While no casualties were recorded and no arrests have been made, the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Police authorities have confirmed that investigations are underway to identify the perpetrators and determine the reason behind the incident.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, has yet to issue an official statement. The incident comes amid heightened public attention following her recent sexual harassment allegation against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the police have launched a preliminary investigation and are working to ensure the safety of the lawmaker and her family.
Residents have called for increased security presence in the area as tensions remain high.
