Gumsu Abacha Reacts to IBB’s Claim on June 12 Annulment: “Allah Does Not Sleep!”

Gumsu Sani Abacha, daughter of the late former Head of State, General Sani Abacha, has seemingly responded to recent allegations made against her father regarding the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election.

In a post shared on her X account on Friday, Gumsu wrote, “Allah does not sleep!! We should be cautious about this world, I swear.” Though she did not directly mention names, many of her followers believe the message was aimed at former President General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), who, in his newly released memoir “A Journey in Service”, accused Abacha of leading the annulment of the historic election, widely believed to have been won by the late Moshood Abiola.

Her post sparked intense debate online, with opinions sharply divided. While some users defended Abacha, arguing that he has become an easy target since his death, others urged Gumsu to seek forgiveness on his behalf, citing the controversies of his regime.

One user, @usmansolo, commented, “Almustapha will expose the truth… Insha Allah!!! Allah stands with the truthful.”

Another, @ForlahbeeFG, asked, “Did he or did he not mastermind the assassination of certain people through Captain Rodgers? Genuine question.”

Supporters of Gumsu’s stance also weighed in. @Osama_hali posted, “They disrespect him because he’s late. They twist the narrative to suit themselves and make him the villain. Let them take it or leave it, Gen. Sani Abacha remains the best Head of State in Nigeria. He maintained a good economy despite Western sanctions against his government.”

On the opposing side, @Farouq_fq countered, “But what General IBB mentioned in his book regarding your late father is all true, so you need to accept that and keep praying for your father’s soul.”

This marks the first time a member of Abacha’s family has publicly expressed displeasure over the accusations made in IBB’s book, further fueling ongoing discussions surrounding Nigeria’s complex political history.
