Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has announced plans to hold town hall meetings to enlighten citizens on the benefits of the Tax Reform Bills. The governor expressed confidence that the bills, once passed, would fast-track economic development in sub-national governments.

A Catholic Reverend Father known for prioritizing transparency, Alia assured that he is fully committed to supporting the bills currently under consideration by the National Assembly. “If passed, the tax law will aid quick development in the states,” he stated, adding that most governors back the proposed reforms.

On the purpose of the town hall meetings, Alia explained, “We shall explain it and get the understanding of our people.”

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has established a committee of experts to review President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proposed Tax Reform Bills and provide recommendations to relevant authorities.

In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Tukur Muhammad-Baba, the ACF urged mutual respect in the ongoing debates, emphasizing the importance of addressing emerging challenges for national unity. The forum expressed concerns over insufficient consultations and called for inclusive, respectful, and constructive dialogue.

“It is regrettable that discussions on the bills have turned acrimonious. Public debates should respect differing opinions,” the statement read.

Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, assured Nigerians, especially Northerners, that the proposed Tax Reform Bills aim to ease financial burdens on ordinary citizens and small businesses.

According to Matawalle, the reforms will foster a business-friendly environment, encouraging entrepreneurship and innovation while broadening the tax base. He praised President Tinubu’s economic policies, which he said are yielding significant results.

Matawalle also highlighted the administration’s strides in national security, citing modernized military capabilities, increased allowances, and salary boosts for personnel. He called for unity and support for Tinubu’s efforts to revitalize the economy and ensure the safety and well-being of Nigerians.
