Governor Fubara Warns New Rivers CP Against Partisan Politics, Urges Focus on Security

0

Port Harcourt – Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, has charged the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, to remain apolitical and prioritize security over political interests. The governor gave the counsel during a formal reception of Adepoju at the Government House on Friday.

Governor Fubara emphasized the importance of professionalism, cautioning the police chief against involvement in clandestine meetings that could compromise the peace of the state.

“You are not new to Rivers State. As someone who has previously overseen operations here, you understand our challenges. Your duty is clear: collaborate with the government and sister agencies to maintain law and order and protect lives and property. Be professional, not political,” Fubara stated.

He further advised Adepoju to avoid actions that could tarnish his career. “This position came through divine providence, not through human manipulation. Remember, leaving a bad record here will affect your professional growth. However, we will fully support you in ensuring your success,” he said.

Fubara also outlined the key security challenges facing the state, including cultism and kidnapping, particularly in rural areas. He urged the CP to present strategic plans to address these issues, assuring him of government backing.

Collaboration for Success
Fubara stressed the importance of close cooperation between the police and the government, urging Adepoju to be actively involved in government functions. He contrasted this expectation with the previous commissioner’s absence from official events.

“The police are central to maintaining security and must work closely with the government. Attend every function. Work with me to ensure the survival and success of Rivers State, even beyond my tenure,” Fubara added.

Adepoju’s Commitment to Security
In response, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, the 47th Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, expressed gratitude for the governor’s hospitality and assured his dedication to tackling security challenges.

“Under my leadership, the Rivers State Police Command will strengthen intelligence gathering, enhance rapid response mechanisms, and foster community trust. We remain firmly apolitical, committed only to upholding law and order,” Adepoju declared.

The CP acknowledged the state’s complex security landscape and pledged to collaborate constructively with political leaders and stakeholders, maintaining professionalism and integrity.

Government’s Continued Support
Governor Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting Adepoju’s efforts, highlighting the importance of a peaceful and secure Rivers State.

With the governor’s assurance and the CP’s strategic vision, Rivers State is poised to reinforce its fight against crime while safeguarding its citizens.
