Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has issued a directive prohibiting government appointees from releasing press statements without prior clearance from the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

The governor announced the decision on Sunday while addressing worshippers at the Methodist Church Nigeria, Itiam Etoi, Uyo.

According to Governor Eno, only the Commissioner for Information and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor are authorized to issue official statements on behalf of the state government.

“No appointee of government has the right to issue a press statement without clearance from the office of the Secretary to the State Government. Only two individuals are permitted to release official statements: the Commissioner for Information and the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor,” Eno said.

He urged government officials to maintain decorum and avoid actions that could disrupt the state’s peace and harmony.

“Let us allow the decency and decorum in this state to grow. We must work together to deliver the dividends of democracy to our people. Our focus should be on fulfilling the promises of the ARISE Agenda,” he added.

Governor Eno emphasized that his administration is not assembling a “war cabinet” but a team dedicated to delivering development and uniting the state.

He encouraged appointees to emulate the integrity and commitment of Joseph in the Egyptian cabinet and focus on advancing Akwa Ibom’s growth.

The governor also reiterated his support for the Christian community, commending the Methodist Church for its organizational structure.

In his sermon, the Methodist Archbishop of Uyo, Most Rev. John Koko-Bassey, praised Governor Eno’s peaceful leadership and urged citizens to support the administration’s efforts to foster unity in the state.
