Abdullahi Ganduje, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged African leaders to provide effective governance in order to decrease military coups in the continent.
Ganduje made the remarks while receiving a delegation from Ghana’s ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Stephen Ntim, the NPP’s national chairman, led the group.
Ganduje emphasized Nigeria and Ghana’s historical ties, saying it would be appropriate for the ruling parties of both countries to share ideas on providing good governance to their populations.
He remarked that with solid procedures in place, the masses would be able to withstand any military intrusions that could undermine democratic governance.]
“This kind of visit is important and good to help us exchange ideas on how to deliver good governance to the people, and it can even reduce the tide of military incursions that we are witnessing recently,” Ganduje said.
“While we are discouraging military coups, we must improve our governance systems, when this is done, the masses will be the first to even resist any such military interventions.”
He described the visit of the NPP national chairman as an icebreaker that would deepen the cooperation between the two countries’ main political parties.
Ntim, for his part, congratulated Ganduje on his victory as APC national chairman, as well as Nigeria on its 63rd anniversary of independence.
“We are delighted and honored to share this special day with you. It foreshadows better days ahead, and we hope you will wish to return the favor,” Ntim remarked.
He informed Ganduje that it was critical for the APC and NPP to share ideas on good governance in order for the parties to continue in power for many years.
The NPP national chairman stated that Ganduje and the APC have much to teach his party.
“As a party, we have a lot to learn from Ganduje as an individual, and from the APC as a political party,” he said.
Ntim thanked Ganduje for accepting to meet with him, saying he looked forward to hosting the APC chairman in Ghana.
