A youth group under the banner of Concerned PDP Youth of Gombe State has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to step aside from active political contest and assume a more advisory role within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to help guide the emergence of a new generation of leaders.
Speaking at a press conference in Gombe on Thursday, the group’s chairman, Jamilu Adamu, praised Atiku’s long-standing contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey and his pivotal role in shaping the PDP over the years.
“Atiku Abubakar is a respected statesman with an enduring legacy in Nigerian politics. We believe his vast experience and insight can be invaluable in mentoring and supporting the next generation of PDP leaders,” Adamu stated.
He emphasized the urgent need for a generational shift within the PDP, urging party leadership to create more platforms for young people to emerge, participate, and contribute to the party’s restructuring and revival.
Adamu clarified that the group’s message was not an attack on the former vice president, but a respectful appeal aimed at repositioning the PDP for future success.
“We are calling for fresh perspectives and a renewed commitment to inclusiveness in our party. The voices of the youth must take a central place in shaping the PDP’s direction,” he added.
Reaffirming their loyalty to the PDP, the group called on stakeholders across all levels to unite in building a stronger, more dynamic opposition party capable of confronting Nigeria’s socio-political challenges.
“We hope our message will be taken in the spirit of dialogue and progress,” Adamu concluded.
