World Powers Call for Restraint Amid Rising Tensions in the Middle East

World leaders and international organizations have responded swiftly following Israel’s airstrikes on Iranian territory in the early hours of Friday. The Israeli military confirmed the operation, codenamed Operation Rising Lion, describing it as a “pre-emptive, precise, combined offensive based on high-quality intelligence.”

The attack has drawn sharp criticism and concern from several countries and institutions, many warning against further escalation in the already volatile Middle East region.

China
Beijing expressed deep concern over the escalating tensions. The Chinese embassy in Iran described the situation as “severe and complex,” advising its citizens in Iran to stay alert and take precautionary measures to ensure their safety.

United States
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio clarified that the United States had no involvement in the Israeli strikes. In a brief statement, Rubio emphasized that Washington’s “top priority is protecting American forces in the region.”

United Nations
UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the military escalation. According to a statement released by his spokesperson and reported by Reuters, Guterres urged both Israel and Iran to exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that could worsen the situation.

India
India’s Ministry of External Affairs also weighed in, with spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stating that New Delhi is “closely monitoring the evolving situation.” He called on both sides to de-escalate tensions, noting that India maintains “close and friendly” relations with both nations involved.

Saudi Arabia
Riyadh took a more forceful stance, with its Foreign Ministry issuing a strong condemnation of the Israeli strikes. The kingdom labeled the attack a “blatant aggression,” asserting it violated Iran’s sovereignty and international law.

The global chorus calling for calm highlights growing fears that further confrontation between Israel and Iran could plunge the region into deeper instability.
