LONDON, UK — The 11th anniversary of the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls is being marked today with a high-level global commemoration and photo exhibition titled “A Decade On: Chibok Photo Exhibition and Commemoration” at SOAS, University of London.

United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and Chief Operating Officer of the Murtala Muhammed Foundation (MMF), Dr. Aisha Muhammed-Oyebode, are among the prominent figures leading discussions at the event.

Dr. Muhammed-Oyebode, a tireless advocate for the Chibok girls, will moderate a major panel discussion, “The Stolen Daughters of Chibok: Resilience, Justice and Global Lessons.” The panel brings together international leaders, scholars, and human rights advocates to reflect on the tragedy’s far-reaching effects on education, gender equality, and post-conflict recovery.

“This isn’t just history – this is a continuing horror,” Dr. Muhammed-Oyebode said in a statement. “We gather not only to honour the stolen daughters of Chibok but to hold the world accountable for the impunity that continues to silence generations of girls.”

The event also features contributions from leading voices including Bulama Bukarti, Osai Ojigho, Dr. Elizabeth Pearson, and an address by Emir Sanusi II, who serves as honorary patron of the photo exhibition.

Organisers say the exhibition aims to keep global attention on the plight of the missing girls and the communities devastated by insurgency in Nigeria, while inspiring renewed commitment to justice and education for all.
