The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has firmly denied speculations suggesting he is planning a return to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that the party is already “dead” and irrelevant ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ganduje’s reaction followed comments by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, who claimed that the APC would soon splinter and that former PDP members, including Ganduje, would find their way back to the party.
“I’m confident that all those who left the PDP will return, including Ganduje,” Lamido said in an interview on Sunday. “Very soon, the APC will burst and split into factions, having accommodated people with different mindsets. Within six months, they’ll come back, and the PDP will rise with full force to wrest power in 2027.”
In a swift response issued Monday in Abuja by his Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje dismissed Lamido’s remarks as “unfounded and irrational,” insisting he has no reason to abandon the ruling party.
“The PDP is dead, and by the end of 2025, it will be completely extinct due to internal squabbles,” Ganduje stated.
He emphasized that under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC has continued to gather national momentum with high-profile defections and growing support across the country. According to him, the party is focused on consolidating its gains and preparing for a sweeping victory in the next general elections.
“In fact, we will soon receive Sule Lamido because very soon he won’t have anywhere to go. The PDP is dead,” Ganduje declared.
Reaffirming his loyalty to the APC, Ganduje expressed pride in leading the party and emphasized his commitment to strengthening internal democracy and promoting good governance. He urged Lamido to focus on resolving the PDP’s internal crisis instead of circulating “baseless claims.”
