Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has once again met with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in what appears to be a continued effort to resolve the lingering political crisis in the state.
Reliable sources confirmed to DAILY POST that Fubara visited Wike at his residence in Abuja on Monday. While a photograph circulating online has sparked speculation, an insider, who spoke on condition of anonymity, clarified that the image was outdated. However, the source maintained that the meeting indeed took place earlier this week.
“The photograph is an old image, but I can inform you that he (Fubara) came to see the Minister this week Monday,” the source stated.
The latest meeting is believed to be part of Fubara’s broader reconciliation efforts aimed at mending fences with Wike and other political stakeholders in Rivers State.
Fubara’s political troubles began shortly after he assumed office in 2023. His relationship with his predecessor, Wike, soured over disagreements concerning control of the state’s political structure and resources. The fallout escalated into a crisis that split the Rivers State House of Assembly into factions, plunging the state into political uncertainty.
In a decisive move on March 18, 2025, President Bola Tinubu suspended Governor Fubara for six months and declared a state of emergency in Rivers State. The President also appointed Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as Sole Administrator, citing threats from Niger Delta militants and the need to prevent further escalation of the crisis.
Since his suspension, Fubara has met with President Tinubu both in London and Lagos, and has continued to engage Wike in hopes of a peaceful resolution. Wike, who has described Fubara as “his son,” publicly extended an olive branch and urged the embattled governor to reach out to other key players in the state.
Despite these calls, there have been no confirmed reports of Fubara meeting with other stakeholders, as his suspension enters its third month.
Observers continue to watch developments closely, hoping for a peaceful resolution to the political standoff that has gripped one of Nigeria’s key oil-producing states.
