Fubara Preaches Unity Amid Political Crisis, Reassures Rivers Residents of Brighter Days

Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reassured residents that the ongoing political crisis will ultimately strengthen the state rather than weaken it.

Fubara made this statement while hosting Muslim leaders from 20 Islamic groups, including the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, at his private residence in Port Harcourt during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

Addressing the delegation, the governor encouraged his supporters to remain steadfast and trust in God’s plan, emphasizing the significance of love, sharing, and sacrifice during the season.

“This season represents love, sharing, and sacrifice. You have come to share in our pain and have made great sacrifices through your prayers,” Fubara said. “As Christians, we believe everything happens for a purpose, and I strongly believe this situation is guiding us toward a greater one.”

Acknowledging the disheartening nature of the crisis, Fubara suggested it could be divinely orchestrated for a greater good. He reaffirmed his commitment to justice and equality, outlining his vision for a society free from oppression.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara promised to address the Muslims’ pending requests once the political situation stabilizes.

Drawing inspiration from biblical teachings, he encouraged patience and perseverance, stating, “If God could be patient with Noah, allowing even the snail to enter the Ark, then patience remains essential in our struggle.”

He also warned against incitement and violence, urging Rivers people to reject any attempts by destabilizing forces to disrupt peace and livelihoods.

Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of the Muslim Ummah, Alhaji Nasir Awhelebe Uhor expressed unwavering support for Governor Fubara, assuring him of their prayers and solidarity amid the crisis. Uhor commended the governor’s commitment to inclusive governance, contrasting it with the previous administration’s stance of declaring Rivers a 100% Christian state.

He also called on President Bola Tinubu to reconsider the emergency rule in Rivers State and restore Fubara’s full authority, arguing that the governor has continued to lead effectively despite the political turbulence.

Uhor noted that challenges like these align with Islamic teachings, which recognize that believers are tested through wealth, power, and authority.

Rivers residents and stakeholders continue to watch closely as political developments unfold, hopeful that peace and stability will prevail.
