Fubara Pledges Stress-Free Work Environment for Rivers Officials Amid Political Tensions

0

Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has reassured his commissioners and permanent secretaries of a supportive and pressure-free work environment, emphasizing his commitment to their well-being. Speaking at a special thanksgiving service in honor of Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo, the State Secretary, in Abonnema Town, Fubara stressed that his administration would allow cabinet members to perform their duties without unnecessary stress or health risks, such as high blood pressure.

“I want to assure you that this administration will stand by you. There will be no pressure that leads to health issues like high blood pressure. We are committed to creating an environment where you can thrive,” Governor Fubara said.

His comments come amid rising political tensions in the state, particularly between Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). These tensions have sparked disputes, including a standoff involving local government chairmen who refused to vacate office after the expiration of their tenure.

Despite Fubara’s refusal to sign the Local Government Amendment Bill, which sought to extend the tenure of local government chairpersons, the Rivers State Assembly passed it into law. This led to further legal battles, with a court eventually nullifying the amendment. A subsequent local government election, conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, saw the Action Peoples Party securing 22 out of 23 chairmanship positions, while the Action Alliance won one.

Governor Fubara’s emphasis on a harmonious and stress-free environment underscores his intent to foster cooperation and efficiency among his administration’s leadership.
