Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering impactful infrastructure and social services despite financial and political challenges.
Governor Fubara made the pledge on Wednesday during the commissioning of the reconstructed 11.8-kilometer Okehi-Umuola-Eberi Link Road along the Okehi-Omuma road in Etche Local Government Area.
Speaking at the event, Fubara highlighted his administration’s prudent financial management, emphasizing that most projects had been executed without resorting to borrowing, except for the ongoing Ring Road project.
“We are here to showcase what we have achieved during these months when questions were raised about what we were doing with the available funds. I am proud to state that this administration has not borrowed money to execute projects, except for the Ring Road project, which everyone is aware of,” he said.
Fubara revealed that the government had dedicated 14 days in December 2024 to highlighting transformative projects designed to improve the socio-economic well-being of communities across the state.
The governor further emphasized his administration’s fiscal responsibility, stating, “Go to the Debt Management Office and verify. We are effectively utilizing the limited resources available to us without relying on loans.”
On workers’ welfare, Fubara reiterated his commitment to improving living conditions, citing the implementation of an N85,000 minimum wage, which exceeds the national benchmark of N70,000.
“This demonstrates our love and dedication to the people of Rivers State, who have shown unwavering support for this administration,” he added.
Despite ongoing political challenges, the governor maintained that his administration remains focused on ensuring peace, security, and progress in the state.
“Even when some forces try to hinder our ability to deliver services, we remain resolute in our resolve to bring happiness to the people of Rivers. Whatever it takes, we will ensure that projects are completed and delivered,” he said.
Fubara described the newly commissioned Okehi-Umuola-Eberi Link Road as a crucial access route for communities in Etche and Omuma LGAs that had suffered years of neglect.
“When we visited Omuma months ago, the deplorable condition of the access road was unacceptable. It became a priority to reconstruct this road to facilitate seamless movement and connectivity,” the governor explained.
Fubara also pledged to address pressing infrastructure needs in the area, including the dilapidated General Hospital and the completion of the Zonal Hospital reconstruction.
Calling for enhanced security measures, he urged security agencies to ensure the safety of road users.
In a critique of opposition politics, Fubara condemned the abandonment of a road project that led to the residence of an opposition politician.
“As governor, I serve all Rivers people, regardless of their political affiliations. It is my responsibility to care for, protect, and provide for everyone,” he declared.
Providing technical details of the road project, the Commissioner for Works, Elloka Tasie-Amadi, described the reconstruction as a comprehensive effort to address the poor condition of the road.
“The 7.3-meter-wide road features a 150mm stone base, a 50mm binder course, and a 50mm wearing course, with cement stabilization applied to areas with wet conditions,” Tasie-Amadi said.
The event is part of Governor Fubara’s broader initiative to transform critical infrastructure and ensure equitable development across Rivers State.
