Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has strongly denied any affiliation with militant groups and warned against attempts to incite violence or economic sabotage using his name.
In a statement released on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, in Port Harcourt, Fubara dismissed viral videos alleging explosions at oil and gas facilities in the state as “fake” and “malicious.” He urged security agencies to investigate the origin of these videos and take action against those responsible.
“Our attention has, once again, been drawn to a flurry of malicious, fake, and imaginary videos of purported explosions on oil and gas facilities in Rivers State,” the statement read.
Fubara emphasized that affected communities had already debunked the claims, assuring that all critical government assets remain secure and fully operational.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has no link to any militant group, does not contemplate any such association, and has no reason to encourage any criminal group or elements anywhere in the state or Niger Delta to undertake any action inimical to the peace of the people or the safety and security of oil and gas facilities,” the statement added.
The embattled governor reaffirmed his commitment to peace, stating that stability is essential for governance and development. He also warned those attempting to exploit the ongoing political crisis in the state to foment unrest.
Fubara called on security agencies to take decisive action against those spreading falsehoods online, insisting that such misinformation is designed to create unnecessary panic and tarnish the state’s image.
“Security agencies should take note of these fake videos designed to misinform the people and further paint the state in a bad light. They must take every necessary step to contain them and bring those behind them to book,” he stated.
