Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on politicians to prioritize public welfare over personal interests. He made the remarks on Tuesday during the inauguration of Okocha Road in Rumuolumeni, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, the hometown of former Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Fubara, who has had political disagreements with Wike over control of the state’s political structure, emphasized the importance of governance focused on the people.
“Politics is not all about who supports you or opposes you; it’s about addressing the needs of the people,” Fubara said. “Government exists to provide services, protect lives and property, and bring joy to the people.”
The governor highlighted the deplorable condition of the road prior to its reconstruction and expressed gratitude to the community for their electoral support. “This road has transformed lives by removing tears from the faces of the people here. It’s a thank-you gesture for believing in us and standing by us,” he said.
The newly inaugurated road is expected to significantly improve living conditions for residents, many of whom are non-indigenes.
