Former President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed that he sustains himself through rental income from one of his properties in Kaduna State, emphasizing his commitment to transparency and integrity during his tenure as president.
Speaking at a meeting with the All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus at the Katsina Government House, ahead of the upcoming local council elections on February 15, Buhari reflected on the challenges of governing Nigeria, stressing the importance of accountability and good governance.
“Nigeria is a difficult country to govern, but many don’t realize it. Only when you take up an administrative position will you understand the challenges,” Buhari remarked in Hausa. He also pointed out that his post-presidency health had improved, noting, “I look healthier and better now than when I was in office. People often comment on my improved appearance.”
The former president, who served two terms in office, shared that he maintains a modest lifestyle, owning only three properties—one in Daura and two in Kaduna. He revealed that he rents out one of the Kaduna homes to cover his living expenses, reaffirming that no one could accuse him of financial misconduct during his presidency.
Buhari further underscored the critical importance of transparency and accountability in leadership, urging Nigerian leaders to uphold these values to drive the nation’s development.
