Suspected terrorists have killed at least five people in a wave of violent attacks within 24 hours in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, plunging the region into fear and uncertainty.
According to a report by Channels Television, the latest incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, when two Fulani residents were gruesomely murdered in a hamlet near the Karonzi community. A local resident confirmed the attack, adding that the incident forced villagers to flee to neighbouring communities for safety.
Barely a day later, at about 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, a separate group of twelve armed men reportedly emerged from the bush and ambushed a motorcycle carrying three passengers in another village within the same local government. All three victims were reportedly killed on the spot in what residents described as a brutal and unprovoked assault.
The back-to-back killings have sparked widespread panic in Baruten, with many residents now too afraid to leave their homes due to the escalating threats of violence, abduction, and possible further attacks.
Efforts to reach the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer for official comments proved unsuccessful, as multiple calls placed to his line went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
The recent attacks have renewed calls for improved security presence and swift government intervention in the region to restore peace and protect lives.
