The well-known “Samsung Plaza” near Banex Junction in the Wuse 2 neighbourhood of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, is said to have caught fire last night. The fire began at around 8 p.m., but its origin was not immediately determined.
Workers and onlookers could be seen scurrying to save what they could while firefighters and security personnel fought the fire.
It was reported that first responders and security personnel engaged in combat with looters who attempted to steal from the flaming plaza.
Nkechi Isa, the public relations officer for the FCT Emergency Management Agency, denounced the looting of the store by hoodlums who attacked first responders after she was informed of the situation over the phone.
She said: “Hoodlums attacked men of the Federal Fire Service who were sent to quench the fire, so they had to request reinforcement from the Police and NSCDC.”
