ABUJA — The Federal Government has announced the official schedule of events for the 2025 Democracy Day celebration, with activities set to begin on Friday, June 6, and culminate in a Presidential Broadcast and National Parade on Thursday, June 12.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Segun Imohiosen.
According to the statement, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has inaugurated an Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC) tasked with organizing a memorable and dignified commemoration of Nigeria’s 26th Democracy Day Anniversary.
Speaking at the inauguration, which was held in Abuja and represented by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Akume emphasized the significance of the celebration as a moment to honor Nigeria’s democratic journey and the sacrifices of its heroes.
“This year’s Democracy Day is an opportunity to reflect on the contributions and sacrifices of our founding fathers in the struggle for independence, and the courage of other democratic champions who resisted military rule,” Akume said. “To celebrate this day in their remembrance is to honour and recognise their place in history.”
