The Federal Government will on April 14, 2025, officially flag off construction work on Section B3 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, covering the Cross River axis of the ambitious infrastructure project.

Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, disclosed this on Sunday during a stakeholders’ engagement on Section Two of the coastal highway project held in Lagos.

According to the Minister, the groundbreaking ceremony in Cross River will be followed by another in Akwa Ibom on April 15.

“We are going to Cross River on the 14th to flag off the construction. By the 15th, we will also move to Akwa Ibom for another flag-off,” Umahi stated.

Highlighting the challenges posed by the Cross River-Akwa Ibom stretch, Umahi described it as the most difficult part of the project so far.

“That 65km stretch is the worst terrain. It is 65km times two, which is 130km in total,” he explained.

On the second flagship project — the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway — Umahi revealed that a section in Sokoto spans 120km, while the stretch from Badagry presents unique engineering challenges.

“The third section of Sokoto-Badagry is going to start from Badagry, but we have a few challenges. We have rivers spanning three kilometres that must be crossed, which will cost a lot of money,” he said.

Umahi added that four possible design options had been presented and discussions with President Bola Tinubu would determine the final choice.

“Once Mr. President makes a decision on the preferred option, we will proceed immediately with procurement and commence construction,” he assured.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway are part of the Tinubu administration’s key infrastructure drive to improve connectivity, boost trade, and open up economic corridors across the country.
