May 29: I can hardly cope with pressure, says Buhari

The Federal Government has formally announced the burial arrangements for the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in London at the age of 82.

At a press briefing held in Abuja on Monday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has set up an Inter-Ministerial Committee to coordinate the state burial. The committee will work closely with the Katsina State government and the family of the late statesman to ensure a befitting farewell.

The committee is chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, and includes top government functionaries such as the Ministers of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Defence, Information, Works, Interior, the FCT, Housing and Urban Development, and others.

Also on the committee are the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, and several senior aides to the President.

The Office of the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, will serve as the secretariat of the committee.

Idris revealed that 25 members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) have been directed to travel to Katsina to participate in the full schedule of the burial rites and remain in Daura for the third-day prayers on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

“As we prepare to bid farewell to one of Nigeria’s foremost statesmen, the Federal Government urges all Nigerians to join in prayers and reflection for the repose of the soul of our former leader,” the minister stated.

The burial is expected to draw dignitaries from across the country and the international community as Nigeria lays to rest one of its most influential post-independence leaders.
