The Federal Government has pledged continuous support to civil servants, ensuring a smooth and well-structured retirement process that extends beyond their years of service.
Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, made this commitment during the second edition of the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) Executive Prospective Retirees Conference. She emphasized the government’s dedication to preparing workers for a rewarding post-service life, aligning with Pillar Six of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025 (FCSSIP 25), which focuses on staff welfare.
The conference, organized in partnership with JFK Abiona Consultancy Limited, targeted senior civil servants nearing retirement, offering insights into proactive planning. Mrs. Walson-Jack highlighted pre-retirement programs, including agripreneurship and business start-up initiatives, designed to help retirees remain active and financially stable.
“Retirement is not an end, but a new beginning filled with opportunities,” she noted, encouraging retirees to explore entrepreneurship, consultancy, and volunteering. She also outlined government-backed initiatives such as affordable housing, health insurance, and reintegration training to ease the transition into post-service life.
Permanent Secretary of the Service Welfare Office, Mrs. Oyekunle Patience Nwakuso, described the conference as a vital part of the Federal Civil Service Entrepreneurship Programme, equipping retirees with skills to navigate life after service.
Dr. Comfort Adeosun, Director of Occupational Health and Safety, applauded the HCSF’s commitment to staff welfare, noting the comprehensive approach to both serving and retiring civil servants.
The workshop featured engaging discussions on retirement planning, financial management, emerging technologies like blockchain, and strategies for embracing post-retirement life with optimism.
The initiative reflects the government’s ongoing effort to ensure that civil servants transition into retirement with the tools and knowledge needed for a secure and fulfilling future.
