Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal High Court of Nigeria has dismissed claims that a judge stepped down from the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on terrorism charges. The court also refuted reports alleging that its Chief Judge, Justice John Tsoho, declared Kanu’s arrest and detention illegal.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the court described the reports as “mischievous, damaging in intent, and entirely false.” The statement, signed by the Chief Registrar, Malam Sulaiman Amida Hassan, clarified that Justice Tsoho had not withdrawn from the case but had reassigned it from Justice Binta Nyako to a new judge.
“The Honourable Chief Judge, in his capacity, has merely reassigned Nnamdi Kanu’s case and has not made any pronouncements regarding the legality of his arrest,” the statement read.
The court warned against the spread of misinformation, urging the public to rely only on verified sources for updates. It reaffirmed its commitment to upholding justice through due legal process.
For further inquiries, the court advised the public to contact its Information Department.
