Federal High Court Adjourns Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial Indefinitely

0

A Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), indefinitely following a jurisdictional dispute.

Justice Binta Nyako issued the ruling on Monday after Kanu and his counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, argued that she no longer had the authority to preside over the case due to her previous recusal.

The development comes after Justice Nyako withdrew from the trial on September 24, 2024, in response to an oral request from Kanu’s defense team. Following her recusal, the case file was transferred to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho.

However, Justice Tsoho later returned the case file to Justice Nyako, ruling that a formal application must be submitted before her recusal could take effect.

With the legal deadlock unresolved, the court has now put the trial on hold indefinitely, leaving the fate of the case uncertain.
